About Space Savers

Through more than two decades of growth, one thing has not changed: when you rent with Space Savers, you are doing business with a family and a team that lives here, builds here, and answers the phone here. Owner Butch Chandler has been in the storage business since 1978, and today he runs Space Savers alongside family, including his son-in-law Sam, who manages day-to-day operations. We are not a national chain with 4,000 look-alike locations and a call center in another state. We are your neighbors.

Butch Chandler built his first storage properties decades ago, and he still approaches the business the same way a builder does: with an eye for quality construction and a belief that a storage facility should be a place you are actually comfortable walking into. Over the years, Space Savers has grown property by property, and each facility has been designed and built to a higher standard than the typical metal-box storage lot you picture with a chain-link fence and a gravel drive.

Because we are family-owned, decisions get made by the people whose name is on the business, not by a corporate office hundreds of miles away. That is why we can promise things the big brands will not: honest pricing, no surprise fees, and a real person who knows your name and your unit. A lot of places advertise "climate control" when all they really have is a small AC unit that leaves the building humid and 85 degrees in an Alabama summer. That is not climate control. At Space Savers, every facility maintains a steady 72 degrees and roughly 50 percent humidity all year long, which is the ideal range for storage. It matters because if the air gets too dry your leather cracks and wood dry-rots, and if it gets too moist you get mold and mildew. True humidity control protects furniture, electronics, documents, photographs, instruments and anything else you would hate to lose. If you have rented from a national brand like Extra Space or Public Storage, you already know the routine: a low teaser rate, then a rent increase every two or three months with no end in sight. We do not play that game. At Space Savers we do not raise your rent for the first full year, and even after that, any adjustment is modest and simply brings you up to standard rate, not a way to squeeze you. We would rather keep a good customer than nickel-and-dime them out the door.

The big chains often require you to buy their storage insurance, or automatically start billing you for it if you do not opt out in time, and that money goes straight to their bottom line. Space Savers does not get involved in insurance. Our contract is simple and straightforward. You are welcome to insure your belongings on your own if you choose, but we will never force a monthly insurance charge on you just to rent a unit.

When you call a Space Savers location, the phone is answered by the actual manager who works at that property every day, someone who knows the facility, knows your situation, and can answer the odd questions that come up when you have never rented storage before. The big brands route you to a call center that just wants to know your budget. And because they float managers between a dozen-plus locations, the person you meet today may be gone tomorrow. Our buildings are clean, secure and modern, with keypad entry unique to each customer, 24-hour video surveillance, moving carts and dollies inside every entrance, and packing supplies like boxes, tape, bubble wrap, mattress covers and locks on site. Renting is simple and month-to-month with no deposit and no long-term commitment. If you are moving in from out of town, we can even handle your lease digitally by email so your unit is ready when you arrive. It is real service from real people, not a kiosk with a robot on a screen.
